London meets Bristol in the roots arena

posted on June 10th, 2015 by Patch

This chapter is the last one before we break for the summer, and we're sure it'll be one to remember. This time around we are inviting two full soundsystems to shake the Trinity Centre's foundations with roots and dubwise:

ABA SHANTI I

Coming down from London, we are delighted to welcome back the legendary Aba Shanti I to the dance. He hardly needs an introduction as he has become one of the true stalwarts of the roots scene worldwide. Aba and his crew have been pushing roots and culture music forward for over 30 years now, through his London residency (University of Dub), his label (Falasha) and, of course, the mighty soundsystem. He has built up such a huge following and reputation with many serious roots fans citing him as their favourite sound system. We'll be treated to Aba and his sound in full effect this Friday and if you didn't know by now, it is guaranteed to be a roots showcase of the highest order!

PAPPA ROOTS

For the first time in the Teachings arena, we are also very blessed to have Pappa Roots in session this Friday. Representing Bristol's sound system culture, Pappa Roots are the perfect sound system to step up with Aba for the dance. The sound was established in 2004 but the crew are veterans with operator David House also part of one of Bristol's foundation sounds, Enterprise. Pappa Roots are a true Bristol Sound, and are known as one of the cities cultural defenders, running strictly conscious roots all night long. They're regulars at the Bristol Dub Club and have recently met other sound system giants such as Channel One and Iration Steppas plus King Earthquake, Jah Tubbys and WSP. They'll be keen to showcase their sound in the Teachings arena in what is going to be a heavily rootikal session.

We can't wait for this dance and we look forward to seeing you there. Tickets are still available at Bristol Ticket Shop (here) but they're going fast, only a very limited number of £10 tickets left, act fast!

Bless up,

Patch
